16 Unspoken Gym Rules Everyone Should Be Following

When it comes to going to a regular gym, it would be nice if everyone followed some simple rules of etiquette. However, that’s not generally the way that it goes to the typical gym. The following are some of the rules that you would hope more people would follow when they are at the gym.

  1. Do Not Take Up Space – If you are not working out, then you should not be just hanging out on one of the machines or benches.
  2. Don’t Be the Coach – If you are not an expert, you shouldn’t go up to strangers and coach them on their form.
  3. You Need a Towel – When you are at the gym, you are going to sweat. You must have a towel to wipe yourself off.
  4. Clean the Equipment – Again, you are sweating. When you are done with a bench or any other piece of equipment, wipe it down.
  5. Leave Space Between Cardio Machines – If there are other cardio machines open, don’t choose the one that is right next to someone.
  6. Do Not Flirt – While you might meet some interesting people at the gym, it is not a spot where you should be flirting and trying to pick people up.
  7. No Photos – Do not take photos of yourself or other people when you are at the gym.
  8. Do Not Constantly Check Yourself Out in a Mirror – You have mirrors at home for a reason.
  9. No Congregating in Busy Locations – You and your friends should not all gather and stand in the busy areas of the gym. If you have to talk, head outside.
  10. Only Use One Piece of Equipment at a Time – Do not hog multiple pieces of equipment
  11. Put Equipment Back Where It Belongs – When you are finished using something, put it back where it goes.
  12. Wash Your Hands After Using the Bathroom – Always wash your hands after going to the bathroom and returning to the gym.
  13. No Singing – Sure, you might like your music better than what is playing over the sound system, but just because you have on headphones and your favorite song comes on does not mean it is time to sing.
  14. Be Aware of the Surroundings – Always be aware of what is happening around you.
  15. No Grunting – If you are grunting and screaming while working out, you are doing it wrong.
  16. Ask if Someone Is Done With a Machine – If someone looks like they might be done with a machine, but you are not sure, ask so you do not poach their equipment.
