One important thing to remember when you vacuum your area rug is to make sure to turn it over and vacuum the backside of it. Many people simply vacuum the top of the area rug and think they have done all they can to get them clean; this however is not the case. You can vacuum your area rug the normal way most times but be sure to flip it over at least once a month and vacuum the backside if you want your rug to last a long time and to stay looking new as long as possible.

Another stop to better area rug cleaning is to be sure to keep your vacuum away from any tassels or fringes on your rug. All you need to do is fluff the ends of your area rug with your fingers and if you find any dirt under them you can vacuum or mop those dirt particles up. When you vacuum the fringe on your area rug you are actually tearing the rug up, and you do not want to do that.

Another step to better Area rug cleaning a is to clean any spill or stain as soon as it takes place and be sure to do it with a cleaner that is appropriate for your area rug. Do not use carpet shampoo to get stains out of your area rug as they are typically made for synthetic wall-to-wall carpet. Once you see a spill happen on your area rug or you see the stain caused by a spill you should quickly run over to it with a terry cloth towel to blot up the moisture. Be sure to use a white towel so that no color transfer will take place. Turn the towel over and blot again, until you have gotten all the moisture out of the area rug. Always be careful to rub the spot in a back and forth motion. Rubbing in a circle can cause damage to your area rug and this damage will not be able to be corrected.
