Why Living Off-Campus Is a Better Idea Than Living in a Dorm When in School

When you venture off to college, it is almost a sure bet that the college will try and convince you to move into a dormitory for your living quarters. While it may seem convenient, is it really the best choice? Here are some benefits of living in OU’s off-campus student housing.

Cheaper

Believe it or not, living off-campus can be significantly cheaper than living on campus. For one reason, landlords are eager to rent out their properties to young students who need a place to live. In addition to this, when you live on campus, not only are you paying for rent, but you are also paying for extras that you may not even use. This is not the case in private apartments.

Your Own Place

If you choose dorm life, you are also choosing to be crammed into a small living space with a complete stranger who you may share absolutely nothing in common with. However, in your own apartment, you have a place to retire to, as well as the ability to rent the place all by yourself if you can afford it. That’s right; you don’t have to live with anyone if you do not want to. At the very least, you can choose your own apartment, which makes things much more bearable.

Rental History

When you rent your own important, you are actually developing something that is incredibly useful, and that is a rental history. After you graduate from college, you will need a place of your own, perhaps in a different part of the country even. A strong recommendation from living in OU off-campus student housing can go a long way to ensuring a nice place is available to you.
